Act Test Boot Camp

Dozens of high school students are participating in the ACT Boot Camp, which is being offered this week in Newport.

Co-owners Mark Treas and Rhett Barbour told The Kentucky Enquirer that the camp is more about how to better take the test to raise scores, not on how to improve knowledge in subject areas, It’s a 40-hour week of intense training. The company says if students don’t score better after taking the $300 class, they can take it again for free. If they still don’t score better, they get their money back.

The company has taught hundreds of students in its first two years, and expects to serve about 600 students this year alone. Only four have come back to retake it, Treas said. Nobody has asked for a refund.

The camp was timed to coincide with the ACT exam, which will be administered Saturday nationwide.
