A 28-year-old Elyria man was arrested yesterday for robbing the Fifth Third bank branch, 281 Broad St., Elyria. Joseph Griffiths is accused of approaching the teller at the drive-thru window around 2:40 p.m. and handing a demand note, according to an Elyria police report.
The teller said she then handed Griffiths two hundred dollar bills and one fifty dollar bill and he left the area, the report stated.
Elyria Lt. Phil Hammonds said police were tipped off as to where Griffiths was located and at 3:30 p.m., they found him at 300 Washington Ave., apartment C, Elyria. Police would not say whose apartment it is.
Griffiths is charged with robbery and taken to the Elyria Police Department. Griffiths is due in Elyria Municipal Court this morning, Lorain County Jail personnel said.
